The Commonwealth Government has established a national register to record the details of those members of the Australian public who have been exposed to asbestos fibres/dust.
Many people come in contact with asbestos containing material (ACM), such as asbestos cement sheet (ACS) and asbestos cement corrugated roofing material (ACCRM), on a regular basis – millions of Australian homes and buildings contain or are built out of ACM. When asbestos containing material starts to deteriorate, is damaged, cut, drilled or interfered with, asbestos fibre/dust is released, it’s then when it becomes dangerous.
